Israel Through the Lens of Law, Service & Community
The San Diego Jewish Bar Association is working with Birthright Israel Tailor Made to organize an eight-day Israel delegation for attorneys and legal professionals in March 2027.
Since our founding in the aftermath of October 7, 2023, SDJBA has sought to create opportunities for Jewish legal professionals to connect with one another, strengthen their relationship with Israel and the broader Jewish community, and engage thoughtfully with issues that are particularly relevant to the legal profession.
Service and volunteering will be a central part of this delegation. In the aftermath of October 7 and the challenges Israel has faced since, we believe there is tremendous value in going to Israel not simply to visit, but to contribute. The delegation hopes to bring together attorneys and legal professionals to volunteer alongside Israelis, support communities and organizations in need, and experience firsthand the role that service and collective responsibility can play in strengthening communities during difficult times.
The delegation also hopes to bring together legal professionals for meaningful discussions about democracy, its importance in both the United States and Israel, and the responsibility we share to value and protect democratic institutions and freedoms that can too easily be taken for granted. As members of the legal profession, we have a unique relationship with the rule of law and the institutions on which democracy depends. We hope the trip will provide an opportunity to engage with these issues alongside legal professionals in both countries, learn from one another, and consider our individual and collective responsibility to protect democratic values.
Through service, dialogue, and connection, the delegation hopes to create opportunities to engage with Israeli legal professionals and community leaders, experience Israel firsthand, contribute meaningfully to Israeli communities, and build lasting relationships among Jewish attorneys and legal professionals.
