About the SDJBA
A community centered on connection.
The San Diego Jewish Bar Association was founded in December 2023, in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks in Israel and during a time of profound uncertainty for Jewish communities around the world.
In the months following October 7, Jewish attorneys and legal professionals throughout San Diego found themselves navigating difficult conversations about Israel, antisemitism, and Jewish identity, often without feeling that they had a space within their existing professional communities to openly share their experiences or feel fully understood.
SDJBA grew out of a desire to create that space.
Attorneys from across San Diego’s legal community came together to build an organization where Jewish legal professionals could connect with one another, support one another, engage in meaningful conversation, and know that they were not alone.
Since then, SDJBA has grown into a community centered on connection, education, professional development, service, and mutual support. We bring together attorneys, judges, law students, and other legal professionals from across San Diego County and seek to strengthen both the Jewish legal community and the broader community we are part of.
From the beginning, one of our core values has been openness. You do not have to be Jewish to participate in SDJBA or attend our events. We welcome anyone who approaches our community with respect, curiosity, and a genuine desire to connect, learn, and support one another.
At its heart, SDJBA exists to ensure that members of our community have a place to turn, whether they are looking for professional connection, friendship, mentorship, education, opportunities to serve, or simply a community that understands.
What began as a response to a difficult moment has become something much larger: a lasting community committed to showing up for one another and building meaningful connections throughout San Diego’s legal community.
